Coronavirus and mental health: How to stay in control during the quarantine period
The emergence of the new coronavirus (Covid-19) has transformed the routine of many people across the country. The situation of distancing caused by the need for social isolation, in addition to the constant amount of information - including fake news -, can cause negative psychological effects.
To help face this moment, we indicate some care to maintain good mental health amid the disease pandemic.
According to experts, it is essential to maintain positive attitudes. “For those who are in isolation, a favorable environment must be created at home. To pass the time, you should create a healthy routine and dedicate yourself to actions you always liked to do and didn't have time, like listening to music or reading a book. These are mechanisms that will help to remove anxiety, contributing to this period not being seen as a prison”, he explains.
With Covid-19, some people can develop psychological symptoms, such as increased stress, depression, insomnia, difficulty concentrating and irritability, which harm health. “We must reorganize and adapt to these changes, with resilience and emotional balance. Staying at home is not simple for those who were used to an intense routine, so take advantage of this moment to recognize yourself, readapt and reinvent yourself ".
With the arrival of Covid-19, people tend to be more tense and distressed. In this context, some feelings are extremely stimulated, such as fear, anger and anxiety. Professionals clarify that anger is a normal feeling to protect yourself, but it can generate some situations of great conflict and stress. “You have to be careful not to go out and attack indiscriminately all the people around you and get your relationships damaged. It takes a lot of maturity and self-observation to avoid impulsive, explosive and destructive attitudes.”
Food and exercise
In this period, another essential attitude is to maintain a healthy diet, aiming to strengthen the immune system.
The correct diet does not prevent the coronavirus or any other virus, however, it helps in the supply of nutrients and keeps all the organs and system working in harmony, it is essential to observe the food that is being ingested, because when many are at home, in most, without doing any physical activity, increase the chances of gaining weight. “It is a very delicate period and the tendency is to consume more food. It is very important to avoid fried foods and excess sugar and to give preference to foods rich in antioxidants, such as fruits and vegetables. In addition, it is essential to drink at least two liters of water a day, in addition to natural fruit juice and teas”.
